Hey there, I’m Waseem Waheed.
I am an Asset Management Engineer in an asset intensive organisation in the rail industry. This role has been a very interesting journey as it opened me to a field with many interesting challenges. Asset Management, as a field of practice, is very diverse and far reaching which has been challenging at times, but also, very satisfying when a solution is implemented and the results to become apparent.
My data analytic skills have been at the centre of my contributions to the organisation so far.
Before my current role, I was a researcher in the field of image processing (my academic profile). My research spans across Mathematical Optimization, Signal and Image Processing, and Graph Spectral Theory, where I developed algorithms to process images and graph signals/data. I have also developed defect detection algorithms to process asset inspection footage using computer vision, deep learning, and machine learning.
During my time as a researcher, I taught a range of subjects at a number of institutions in both computer science and electronic engineering departments.
Subjects that I have taught include * Natural Language Processing * Data Mining * Internet of Things * Wireless Communications/Networking.
I found it incredibly rewarding to inspire and guide students.
My curiosity doesn’t end there. I’m captivated by the vast landscape of data science, computer vision, natural language processing, programming, networking, and all things information technology.
Before that, I wore many different hats including:
- Network engineer
- Computer technician
- Maintenance technician
